Mini

Mini: a term used to describe luchadores of short statures, some of which may have dwarfism. Originally the limit for the Mini division was 153 cm/5'0", but in recent years wrestlers such as Virgo who is 176cm/5'9" have wrestled in this division. It is also not rare for a recently apadrinado short luchador to wrestle both in the regular division and the minis division, although the shorter the luchador is the rarer it will be.

Minis wrestling was popularized in the 1970s when promotores adapted the concept of "Midget Professional Wrestling" for Mexican audiences. The most popular minis of this era were Arturito (a luchador using a gimmick inspired by R2-D2 from the Star Wars films), Gran Nikolain, and Pequeno Goliath.

By the 1980s the Minis had become a passing fad, until the early 1990s when Antonio Peña revived the concept by introducing the Mini-Estrellas (Mini-Stars). Mini-Estrellas would be both little people and short luchadores who would work as miniature version of popular wreslers. Ultimo Dragoncito and Pierrothito where some of these first Mini-Stars.

There is no official restriction that prevents wrestlers of small stature from wrestling with "regular" sized luchadores. Some luchadores stared out their careers as minis, but eventually joined the "regular" division. The most famous of these cases is the one of luchador Virus, who after winning a Torneo Cibernetico was allowed to wrestle in the "regulars" division. Similar Torneos are still held by some empresas each year.It is important to note that the minis division is strictly for male wrestlers regardless of small stature luchadoras will wrestler in the "regular" category.
