1901
San Francisco promoters introduce tag team matches as a way of improving the sports entertainment value. Around the same time, also in San Francisco, the modern wrestling ring is innovated.


1915
An international tournament is held from November 1915 to January 1916 at the Manhattan Opera House featuring Ed "Strangler" Lewis, Alex Aberg, Waldek Zbyszko, B.F. Roller, and Charles Cutler. The talk of the tournament is "The Masked Marvel," a hooded wrestler (later revealed to be Mort Henderson) who came out of the crowd and demanded to be entered into the tournament.

1917
Rodolfo Guzmán Huerta, El Santo, is born in Tulancingo, Hidalgo, Mexico on September 23.

1919
Lucha Libre maestro, Cuahutémoc " El Diablo" Velasco is born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.

1921
San Francisco's As Santel leads a troupe of European and Japanese-American professional wrestlers to Japan.

1922
Alejandro Muñoz Moreno, Blue Demon, is born in Rinconada, Nuevo León, Mexico on April 24.


1929
Salavador Lutteroth witnesses a wrestling match in the Liberty Hall of El Paso, Texas. The greek Gus Papas is one of the wrestlers that catches his attention.
